22/4: Zebra

Would you guess that this sketch was based on a toy or photo? It seems obvious to me that it’s from a toy, but then, I saw the toy.

22/1: Toy people

Monumental scale for these little people.  I love how the male character on the left seems to be ogling the female in the middle. Totally accidental, I swear!

21/5: Continuous line giraffes

Another one from one of the kids’ books.

21/4: Continuous line helicopter

This one is inspired by one of my son’s library books.

20/1: Medicine Cabinet

This is one of the shelves in our bathroom medicine cabinet. My son often asks what I’m drawing, and my usual response is to ask in return what he thinks I might be drawing. This time he answered, “They look like buildings.” I love hearing his take on the world.

19/1, 19/2: Gladiolus

There were glads in the gardening beds in the front yard of our house when we first moved in, mostly pink with a few reds. They didn’t look quite right there, so I moved them around the yard a few times until I settled on a sunny corner in the back yard. It’s such a cheerful spot when the glads are in bloom alongside the sunny yellow canna lilies and yarrow.

I thought I’d give colored pencils another go with this one. I went a little heavy with the pink in the top petal, the first one I did, but I like how the rest came out.

18/5: Elephant

My son is really enjoying books about animals lately, and they provide lots of great drawing inspiration that I frequently forget to act on.  The texture of the elephant is such a great fit with the loose and fast style I’m working on right now.
